Veeam Agent Service fails/gets stopped during backup
Hi,
i'm happily running the free edition of Veeam for a couple of years now on my Windows 10 laptop. Since a few days the Veeam agent service gets stopped during the daily backup and the backup fails.
I tried several things to resolve this problem (Re-Install, recreate Veeam Database, Backup to NAS vs. Backup to locally attached USB drive etc.) So far nothing resolved the issue.
Currently when I try to run a completely new full backup the service gets stopped after more or less 45 minutes every time and the backup fails.
Error message is always just "Job aborted due to server termination"
I can restart the service without any problem but the problem persists.
I did also follow these instructions here: https://www.veeam.com/kb1959. And did setup the Antivirus (for Windows Defender, nothing else on the system) exclusion lists as described here: https://www.veeam.com/kb2034. Nothing helped.
Version of the Veeam Software is 5.0.0.4301
Windows 10 20H2 Build 19042.928
There was no hardware or software change on the system beside Windows Updates.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

- First of all, feel free to open support ticket and troubleshoot the issue with engineers - product logs might contain a real clue to solution. R&D forums are more of theory crafting place
- Since service fails mid process, I would go into source data read check(chkdsk), resource tracking(CPU\RAM tracking) and Windows Event logs - something causes a service drop after all!

I did run chkdsk on all drives in the system without any error. The laptop has a Core i7-6820HQ and 64GB RAM so i would hardly doubt that it is a resource problem
It must be something that has changed recently. As the backup was running without any issues for more than 2 years now until 3-4 days ago.

Yes you can get support for free agent, however it will be served at "best effort" basis, so have some patience!

quick glance into logs shows some interesting errors - they do pop in random order(not on a specific block, so we can throw disk corruption away), and it seems that we fail to process some sort of emulated partition disk that you have. That disk emulator might be the source of our failures. Did you add emulated disk recently?

Disk setup is unchanged since more than 2 years. I have three physical disks all SSDs (2x NVM 1TB and 1x 2.5" 500GB), all encrypted with Bitlocker (also no change there since over 2 years).
I don't have any emulated or virtual disks on the system.

I have similar problem on a computer.
This issue was on version 4. I upgraded to 2 next build of 4 and last week with 5.0.
This job is configured to backup each day at 10:00 on NAS Synology (unc path).
After power on laptop, Veeam service where stopped and user need to start Veeam manualy.
It a external user, I do not have access easily to this computer.

Finally after the latest Windows Update Veeam Agent for Windows started working properly again....
