Re: Veeam Backup Encryption Password
Assuming the backup is from some old Veeam versions, if the password you used was short and insecure (e.g. under 10 symbols long and low complexity), then you can potentially brute force it.
Version 12.1 strengthened backup file encryption significantly, so the password would need to be max 8 symbols long to be brute-force-able in a reasonable timeframe.
In all other cases, unfortunately there's absolutely no way to recover your data from this backup.

The backup is indeed from an older version. I was 'sure' about the password. The password hint is clear to me. Do you know what software to use for a brute force?

Re: Veeam Backup Encryption Password
Keep in mind someone could have changed the password at some point in time without you even knowing. Including for malicious reasons.
While you could try to script something yourself with Veeam PowerShell, for a high performance solution I suggest contacting a data recovery company which does this for a living. Veeam is the worldwide backup leader by market share so I expect most data recovery companies to offer services for Veeam backups.

Hi Jan,
Was this backup made by VBR and do you still have access to the DB and or configuration backup?
That could be your salvation.

In that case, Gostev gave you the only option.
