Veeam Data Cloud Vault v2 As Backup Destination

Post by manofbronze »

I know that Veeam Agent for Windows supports object storage as a backup destination, and that Azure Blob is an option within object storage, but can the new Veeam Data Cloud Vault v2 be used? Technically it is Azure blob object storage is it not?
Has anyone tried this yet?

Hi Manofbronze

Yes, it's Azure Blob in the backend, but to be compliant with our Veeam Data Cloud Vault Service Agreement, you have to use the VDC Vault service with Veeam Backup & Replication. Standalone agents are not supported.

May I ask what use case you are looking for with standalone agents and VDC Vault?

Fabian,

Thanks for confirming that VDC Vault cannot be used with stand alone agents.

My use case would be with very small businesses that still have physical only servers and/or insufficient local resources to standup a Veeam Backup & Replication server. The goal would be for the agent to backup directly to VDC Vault as if they were backing up directly to object storage or a Cloud Connect repository.

Hi Manofbronze,

Thank you for sharing the use case.
If you have a running Veeam Cloud Connect infrastructure, I recommend adding VDC Vault to your Veeam Cloud Connect Server.
While direct backup from the Agent to VDC Vault is not possible, your tenants can back up through Cloud Connect Gateways to a Cloud Repository that is backed by VDC Vault.

Best regards,
