Veeam Endpoint - Bundled sql server license not free?

Hello,

a microsoft representative has informed us that the ms sql server 2012 express localdb edition, which comes with Veeam Endpoint is only allowed on servers which have only one cpu with a maximum of 4 cores. Otherwise a sql standard license has to be purchased. Is the statement from the ms representative right?

This is incorrect, both SQL Server Express and "SQL Server Express LocalDB" are free to download and distribute. Have a look at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-ser ... 16-pricing (same for 2012).

Hello Niels,

thank you for your answer. We have thought that the sql express edition is free to use regardless of the hardware it is installed on. But the microsoft man stated that the express edition is only free to use when it is installed on a server which has only one cpu and a maximum of 4 cores. I just performed a search on the internet and didn't find anything which approves the statement of microsoft.
We have installed Veeam Endpoint on a two socket machine with 6 cores per cpu and therefore we have to buy the sql standard edition. I think he mixed this with the maximum specs of the cpu the express edition is able to use.

Wolfgang,

Its absolutely safe to use bundled SQL edition with VEB FREE or VAW 2.0 FREE. It does not require addition SQL license.
