Hello,
If our storage capacity is 30TB and data will be backup is 20TB (backup using volume level) and the retention set to 4 points, is my thought below is correct or not?
1st backup will be full and need 20TB
2nd backup is incremental and need 1 TB(assume the daily growth is 1TB)
3rd backup is incremental and need 1 TB(assume the daily growth is 1TB)
4th backup is incremental and need 1 TB(assume the daily growth is 1TB)
5th backup will be full backup and need another 24TB
so with that scenario my storage with capacity 30TB is not enough because at least we have 2 full backup to accommodate 4 restore points, am i right?
So what recommendation retention point for my scenario?

Re: Veeam Storage Capacity
Hi Handian,
When sizing backup storage always consider that you need enough space for N+1 backup chains (or cycles), where a backup chain is composed by a full restore point with all the incremental restore points that depends on it.
In your case the backup chain is 4 days and it will use 23 TB (considering no dedup and compression)
If the retention is 4 days (or 1 backup chain) you'll need space for 2 backup chains (1 + 1) --> 46 TB
If your retention is 12 days (or 3 backup chains) you'll need space for 3 + 1 backup chains and so on.
Using this calculator you'll have a visual representation of it with weekly backup chains.

Hope this helps,

Re: Veeam Storage Capacity
Hello,
I believe if we not tick 'create active backup periodically' then my backup chain will contains one full backup and 4 incremental backup (if the restore point set to 4), so with this condition my storage will be enough to do the backup. Am i right?

Re: Veeam Storage Capacity
Yes that would be a 'forever forward incremental' https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
