Why does the agent support backup to Cloud connect ?
Hi,
I am using the agent to backup my laptop to our cloud connect setup. I was in the intention of building this as a service to customers. Just found out why that isn't a good idea.
I had to get a new company image on my laptop, and i thought "no problem", I backup the entire laptop with the agent.
After reinstalling the agent, using the exact same login, i am not able to access my old backups ???
So why would you support backuping up to the cloud if the agent can't restore it ?
Support says : you have to install a VBR server, and import the files, then you can restore it locally on that server
So i have to get the VBK files out from my Linux server, its only 450 GB, i have to request a license for a free VBR server, and create a new windows server in a virtual setup, import the backup files, then restore it.
I generally like Veeam's products, but this really scares me. I haven't been able to find this limitation mentioned anywhere in the documentation.

Hi Henrik,
You can restore from the entire laptop image via Recovery Media, please check the details here and let us know your feedback.
In situations when, for example, a single drive has died, but you are still able to boot in Windows you can perform the restore of a volume using Agent UI.
Thanks

Re: Why does the agent support backup to Cloud connect ?
Hi,
Since i got a new Company image, a disaster recovery isn't an option.
My company image doesn't include the files needed to create the recovery media.
The agent are sending the backup directly to cloud connect, since this is the only way the backup can work when traveling.

Henrik,
You can establish a connection with Veeam Cloud Connect via tenant account (and then perform a restore if that's required). In order to do that open any restore wizard and use tenant account to connect with the Cloud Connect infrastructure. Then you should see all backup files stored in the cloud repository. Cheers!

Re: Why does the agent support backup to Cloud connect ?
Hi Dmitry,
Could you please tell me where i find that option in the Agent ?
Because i think you are referring to the same solution that support are:

This sounds VERY cumbersome.

Re: Why does the agent support backup to Cloud connect ?
Hi there
One off your bright SE's from Denmark told me the solution. Its actually pretty simple.
choose the restore individual files:
When presented with the restore point, just click "previous":
Then you get this view, here you select the old backup point:
Then you are able to restore the old files:
May i suggest you put this procedure in the documentaion.

Hi Henrik,
Please find it here . These descriptions have been already a part of the user guide for a long time, since file-level recovery is the most popular restore scenario.
Thanks
