Windows agent and new hardware

Post by mandarb »

Good afternoon,

I currently have a server that is managed by a Veeam Agent (VBR 9.5u4). I am backing up a few volumes which are attached via iSCSI. I want to move these to a new file server (new hardware). I can move the iSCSI volumes and shares easy enough, and I plan on keeping the old server name so I do not have to reconfigure my drive maps (let's save the DFS discussions for another time).

Is there a way to keep my existing backups, or will I have to start over with a new backup chain? Does the backup chain map to the hostname, or the agent's unique ID?

Thanks for the help,
Jim

This is agent related (so wrong forum section) but it is tied to the agent ID. I have had to make a fileshare and mount the backup with the agent on the new installation for my clients that I migrated to a new system. Veeam agent will not see them, which is kind of annoying because then I have to manage all the backups for the retention period if the user wants to restore their old files...

Hello folks,

Unfortunately, there is no way to map the backup of a specific disk/volume when it's attached to a new machine. Cheers!
