Is there any details on the expected versions of Linux to be supported? I'm interested in RHEL 5. I also would like to be on the beta if possible.

Thank you,
-Justin

Hi,

out of curiosity, are there news on the mac support vor VEB?
Time machine is a good solution of course, but I really enjoy Veeam products and would love to see mac support for VEB!

Thanks

Hello Lukas,

Unfortunately no news in regards to mac support – we need to release the Linux version first.

Hi,
Is there any date set for the Linux release? When it was announced, I saw "later this year" which I thought meant December 2015. It is now late-March 2016 and I see no status update except a forum response which still says later this year. Is there a month of this year we should look for it to be released? Yes, I am on the beta list. I have not seen any communication.

Cheers

You may be confusing it with some other product, because Veeam Backup for Linux has always been targeted for 2016 > Announcing: Veeam Backup for Linux

Will Oracle Linux Enterprise be supported? We would like to use Veeam Backup Linux on our Physical Oracle Server. Virtualization is not an Option because of oracle Licensing restriction ;-/

Best Regards.

Since Oracle Linux Enterprise is based on RHEL it should work, however it has not been fully tested.

Has anyone received the linux beta yet? I'm very excited for it (I just heard about it yesterday and registered to hopefully receive the beta for testing). Is this the thread where folks would be discussing how testing is going?

Public Beta has not been distributed yet.
Don't worry you'll hear when it's available for sure, since now you registered. And our blog will have the announcement published the day it will be available.
After that date, this forum will be the main platform to discuss about it.

thanks,
Luca

Hi,

64-bit and 32-bit OS with kernel version 2.6.32 or later:
• RedHat and derivatives (CentOS etc.)
• Debian and derivatives (Ubuntu etc.)

You can backup all major filesystems.

Thanks.

We are current customer who run veeam backup vmware.

The GA date depends on the results of the beta we're releasing next month (as PTide says above), it would be more clear on the date closer to the actual release.

Has any testing been done on SUSE linux at all?

I'd love a clean way to backup our vCenter server appliance that integrated into the rest of our Veeam ecosystem

Yes, some testing has been done on SUSE, however not as extensive as on RedHat and Debain distros, that is, Veeam Backup for Linux should work on SUSE but is not officially supported in Beta.

Thanks

Also, in regards to VCSA, as a virtual machine it can be protected by using VBR, Dave why are you looking at Veeam Backup for Linux for this task?

We run our vCenter and it's dependencies (SQL, a dedicated DC/GC etc) on a dedicated server which we'd rather not have to license the CPU's in for Veeam. This was a legacy decision based around the fact that this vCenter covers a number of sites and we didn't want a failure at our main site to kill vCenter for the entire organisation. But it's hard to justify 2 CPU licenses for 3 or 4 VM's. It's unlikely when the machine itself comes up for renewal that we'll continue this tradition as with Veeam we have so many more ways to protect these systems on our main cluster than we ever did with Backup Exec. But for now, it's what I'm stuck with.
