recovery-media iso - won't boot
- CentOS7 on vmware hypervisor 6.0 v2
- VAL installed on CentOS, all dependencies met/ok
- Backups created across LAN via CIFS ok
- Recovery-media iso bound to virtual cd drive, set as 1st boot dev, set to pwr on + connect at boot
- Errors out with 'No operating system found' and boots to CentOS
- Can install other vms from other iso files bound as above
Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks.

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
How did you mount the iso to the virtual cd drive? Did you upload it on a datastore? Or did you try passthrough? Could you try to get the iso from the zip file and upload it to another datastore and test it again, just to make sure nothing is wrong with the ISO you are using right now?

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
Hi,
Also I'm curious what's the boot firmware specified in the VM's options - BIOS or EFI? If the latter then it's a known bug - the current version of recovery media just won't boot.
Thanks

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
The iso was/is uploaded to the datastore - in the settings for the vm, the cd drive is 'pointed' to the correct iso in the datastore, is not set to passthrough, and the virtual device node is IDE cd/dvd drive 1 - setting to passthrough while in the config window does not hold and reverts back to Emulate IDE after clicking OK.vmniels wrote:How did you mount the iso to the virtual cd drive? We will try another copy of the iso from the zip package.
Thanks

In the boot options tab of the vm settings, BIOS is selected, not EFIPTide wrote:Hi,

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
Replacing the iso file with a fresh copy did the trick - and were were able to restore our test backup job (volume) via cifs.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

[MERGED] Is the Restore ISO UEFI compatible?
I am testing restoring an entire VM to Microsoft Hyper-V Virtual Machine but I am not able to boot the ISO as it says it media is not UEFI compatible file system. Is this a known issue? Is the restore media suppose to be UEFI compatible and will it be in the future?

Is this a gen2 vm? UEFI will ofcourse be fully supported with GA release.

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
Yes it is a Gen2 VM. Should I be only testing with Gen1 VMs for now?
It sounds like you are saying it is known that the recovery ISO is not UEFI bootable currently but it is planned to be.

Re: recovery-media iso - won't boot
I can't confirm it right now if it supported in the beta . Just saying that if it is a known issue right now it will work in the GA version. Gen2 VM's should allow it as Gen1 doesn't if I am correct. Will have to test it and get back to you if it is a known issue or not.
