Restore Linux Bare-Metal Issue

Post by brian.chan »

Hi folks,

We have a bare-metal production application server running Oracle Linux 7.6 with Oracle database backed by Linux agent and Oracle RMAN plug-in. Recently, our production server went down due to possible hardware issues and we're trying to restore the application server and DB to VMware.

When restoring the OS to VMware using quick migration restore method, we encountered KB2669 issue and the OS fails to boot with dracut error since it can't find the LVM root filesystem: https://www.veeam.com/kb2669

Our Linux admin colleague said that it's due to the restored VM missing the required drivers so we tried bare-metal restore (BMR) to a fresh VM instead to work around the driver issue. The fresh VM has the exact same number of network interfaces and disks as the source server. However, after booting into Veeam recovery media to map and restore each volume and rebooting, we get the same KB2669 dracut error.

Has anyone encountered a similiar issue? Any tips to resolve the issue for a successful bare-metal restore (BMR) is much appreciated, thanks!

Does the Linux Admin see the disks when booted to the Image or a oralinux Recovery Image? Do you have any other oralinux 7 VM's running in VMWare? I would confirm that the VM/Storage Controller/Host are compatible as well.
