Hello,
the HANA plugin today supports only x86.
See system requirements
Which Linux are you running on Power?
Best regards,
Hannes

[MERGED] Feature Request - SAP HANA backup support for SLES 12 and SLES 15 on IBM POWER (PPC64LE)
Good Morning
are there prospects for SAP Hana Database with log backups. We would like to get rid of TSM backup. We would also agree to test.

[MERGED] Feature Request - Linux agent support for SLES 15 SP1 on POWER (PPC64LE)
Just chiming in, to say that we have gotten this request to, and would love to see SAP HANA agent supported on IBM POWER servers.

Hello,
we've also linux on Power for our productive HANA databases.
Please add support for linux on power and hana on linux on power.
We are running SLES on our Power server.

Re: Sap hana power linux
Hello,
we've the same problem.
Would it be possible to use a "normal" Agent that allows saving the server without distinction from SAP HANA?
Perhaps you could do a local SAP save directly with SAP, and then take everything away with the "regular" Veeam Agent.
Thanks

Re: Sap hana power linux
Hello,
the "normal" Veeam Agent for Linux only runs on x86. Not on Power.
But yes, one could dump all data to a folder and share that folder via NFS and back up that NFS share with NAS backup. One might even extend that by using another server for NFS server and in case of restore, one could use instant NFS publishing (V12 feature) and present a read-only share without copying files anywhere.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Sap hana power linux
Hello Hannes,
thanks a lot.
Will V2 potentially have a linux Power agent or is it not expected?
We're already using the NFS solution, but it's very expensive in terms of licensing (1 license every 500 GB), and SAP HANA from this point of view is not a light product, especially when you then have various environments (mandatory) .
Thanks again
Gianluca

No, there won't be a Veeam Agent for Linux on Power in the near future. We have plans, but cannot provide a timeline.
technically also the Veeam Agent for Linux can back up from NFS shares. But the performance is lower than NAS backup. That would only cost one license.

Re: Sap hana power linux
yes, we can consider using the Linux agent to save a NAS.
As you say, to check the performance of one system rather than the other. The important thing is to have a solution that is simple to manage, and fast, both in backup and in restore.
True that the cost of 30 or 40 Veeam licenses compared to those of SAP Hana, there is no comparison

Hello,
Is there any news on the subject? (Veeam Agent for Linux on Power)
We are currently looking for a backup solution.
Thank you!

Re: Sap hana power linux
Hello,
yes, we announced it a month ago at Veeam ON (Veeam Agent for Linux on Power and SAP HANA plugin for Linux on Power).
It's planned for the upcoming release (12a). Tech preview / beta builds will be available via your local Veeam team.
Best regards,
Hannes

now we've the V12.1 and we would like to do this backup via Agent installed on Linux.
we do the mount of the NFS share on a linux server, where is installed the Veeam Agent, but we can't do a backup, because Veeam don't see the data.
The Item written on the backup is not found on the filesystem and will not be backed up.
How we can do it, or better, how we've to mount the NFS (or SMB) share?
thanks a lot.

Re: Sap hana power linux
Hello,
what do you like to back up? SAP HANA on Power or an NFS share that is somehow mounted to a Power machine?
Backup from NFS / SMB shares is best done with NAS backup. It does not need an agent for that.
If we talk about NFS backup with the agent, then file-based backup is the only option. Select the NFS mountpoint as source and then it backs it up. If not, please post the support case number.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Sap hana power linux
we save the data of SAP on a NFS Share, and we would like to save it with a Ubuntu Linux server that mount the share. So we can use just a license and perhaps better than a job File-to-backup (worked well since v11, but with v12 very slow.. backup and copyjob)

Re: Sap hana power linux
For SAP, there is the plugin
File-to-tape with SAP (and plugin data in general) makes no sense to me because restore is very complicated if not impossible.
In general: if something worked fine in V11, then it should also continue working fine in later versions. If not, then support should check why it got slower.

Re: Sap hana power linux
thx for the reply.
I know that there is a plugin, but we've several servers and we wanted to save SAP in an external folder, and then with Veeam go and get these saves once a day.
We've already used the plugin for almost a year, but personally I didn't like it much. Mostly due to how it was configured by the SAP consultants, as every 3-4 minutes it performed a save (I think it save the logs).
But this post isn't only for SAP. We also have databases like MariaDB and MongoDB that perform a save to a share and I would like to get these.
I'm currently doing this with a File-to-Backup but with V12 it doesn't work very well anymore and has slowed down a lot, especially the CopyJob part, which fails almost every time even though both the backup and the CopyJob were recreated with V12.
