Hi, a customer with a physical node with SLES for SAP needs to migrate the system to new hardware.
Unfortunately I don't have much experience on SAP, and not much information on OS and software versions at the moment either.
The OS is installed on local disks of the node, while the db data resides on external storage (SAN).
Is it suggested to use VAL to migrate via volume restore?
What are the caveats and/or points to watch out for?
Can application consistency be achieved?
Thanks
Marco S.

Re: SAP migration to new HW
Hello Marco,
To assist you better, we kindly request the following information:
OS, Kernel, and other software Versions.
File System Configuration: Indicate if Btrfs is being used and its placement (directly on disks or layered on LVM). If possible, share the output of the "lsblk" command.
Backup and Restore Process: Briefly describe the current backup and restore process.
All in all, volume level backup and restore via VAL might be the solution.

Re: SAP migration to new HW
Hi Rovshan,
at the moment I do not have access to the client's infrastructure, it is more a concept study of the solution.
I would like to understand if there are specific requirements (as you were saying OS, kernel version..) and critical points in such an activity using volume level backup/restore, or if there is some other solution suggested by Veeam.
Thanks
Marco S.

Re: SAP migration to new HW
Hello Marco,
Volume level backup via Veeam Agent for Linux and Bare Metal Restore is the possible solution for your scenario.
Limitations and considerations are the same, as in Veeam Agent for Linux, please refer to System Requirements.
Also check Mapping disk during Bare Metal Restore user guide, for limitations and considerations.
Other than that, if you have more details of the system, happy to guide you.
