[PUBLIC BETA] Veeam Agent for AIX v4
Main feature of V4 is Bare Metal Recovery.
Build number: 4.0.0.774
Download link - HERE.
Password: AIXbeta
Limitations of this BETA
General
• AIX v7.3 is not supported in BETA
• Regardless of valid license, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX 4.0 BETA remains functional until July 15, 2022
only.
• Upgrades from/to version 4.0 BETA are not supported.
• Encryption does not function properly. Do not create encrypted backup jobs, import or restore from
encrypted backups.
Bare Metal Recovery
• Bare-metal recovery is available through command line interface only.
• Bare-metal recovery to dissimilar hardware is not supported.
• Restoring only from file-level backups created by the current Beta version of Veeam Agent is supported.
• Restoring data with Veeam Recovery Media requires a backup that includes the full contents of the root
directory. When you create the backup job, consider the following:
o The includedirs option must specify the single path to the root directory: --includedirs /
o If use excludedirs, includemasks or excludemasks options in backup job settings, mind
that no system data is excluded from backup.
• Restoring from encrypted backups is not supported.
• Only the JFS2 file system is supported.
• After bare-metal recovery, disks are not automatically assigned to WPARs.

Re: [PUBLIC BETA] Veeam Agent for AIX v4
Hi @PTide,
Can we recover it to Vmware as VM or Azure, or does it have to be the same hardware specifications ?
I'd like to know when we do the recovery of the server in the next 7 years or so, do I have to find the same old hardware or run the Veeam backup & recovery console ?

@albertwt It is not possible to recover AIX servers to VMware or Azure VM. You'll have to assure that you have hardware that can be used or look into the migration of the existing application to newer architectures.

You can use VBR to offload backups to Azure repositories via a scale-out backup repository. There is no direct backup to object storage for the AIX agent.

@albertwt,
I'd even say that you cannot even run AIX on VMware at all simply because VMware itself cannot run on IBM POWER CPUs.
Thanks!
