[SOLARIS] Veeam Agent for Solaris
Hello,
Currently we are in the process of upgrading our Solaris Hardware. We have tried using the Veeam Agent for Solaris v1 but it didn't meet our requirements, since then we have been using a script to backup our environment.
I've been to a few seminars and it was confirmed that V2 is being worked on unfortunately I wasn't able to find any new information.
Would anyone have any information on this? ETA on release? Features?
Thank you in advance.

Hi @jhrysio,
Thanks!
Would you elaborate, please? It would be great to know what is missing. By the way, do you use SPARC or x86?We have tried using the Veeam Agent for Solaris v1 but it didn't meet our requirements
Thanks!

Re: Veeam Agent for Solaris
Thank you both for your replies.
Hey PTide,
It's been awhile since we last tested it. Mostly we were hoping for Veeam Console UI integration, basically more user friendly. Veeam makes restores much more user friendly and our current method can be difficult for some of our staff, just in case we have to do a restore off hours.
We use SPARC.
I followed up with our Solaris team asking what would improve the product, hopefully I'll have some more feedback.
Thanks,
-JH

Re: Veeam Agent for Solaris
Sounds good.
There are several areas in the integration and restores part:
- central deployment and configuration
- usage of VBR repositories as a target + centralized statistics
- FLR from VBR console (via FLR appliance)
- FLR from VBR without FLR appliance
- Bare metal restore
- VxVM integration in BMR
For instance, some people only need to back up a bunch of config files because they deploy servers from templates, while others want to have BMR capabilities.
If you could ask them what things are an absolute must-have and what things can wait or simply not required, and also about their current Solaris version (9, 10, 11?), that would be great.
Thanks!

Re: [SOLARIS] Veeam Agent for Solaris
I heard back from our Team.
We’re aiming to use this for Solaris 11.4 only. Earlier versions of Solaris 11 would be nice to have support for.
1. Config file backup (including Service Processor configuration, if that’s possible) [most important]
2. Primary LDom restore [fairly important]
3. Other LDom restore [nice to have, but can be handled other ways]
4. Integration with all the other Veeam backups is very important. Manually setting up a backup using a TUI on the Solaris server itself is a pain.
