Veeam (app) in Synology Package Center
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible (in the future) to have a Veeam app in the Synology Package Center.
Then I would be able to make a Full backup with the Veeam app, directly from the Synology NAS to our Backup repository server.
With this solution I don't need to configure the Synology NAS as a Iscsi device on another device.
This would be a perfect solution for the small customers without a server.
Kind regards,
Necdet Arslan

If I understand correctly, you have a file share on there which you would like to back up? This will be possible in VBR v10 with our upcoming NAS backup so the need for creating a package wouldn't be needed. This way we can also support other vendors.

You can install the Veeam Agent for Linux on a server and present the NAS share to it. If you then configure a file level backup (snapshot-less backup), it will back up those files as well.

That is not what i asked.

As said, that is currently not possible. Backing up via another server with VAL is a workaround until NAS support comes within VBR v10.

Re: Veeam (app) in Synology Package Center
Technically, it should be possible to install VAL without veeamsnap package (break the dependency with a corresponding option in a package manager) on your NAS device. That would allow you to run file-level backup jobs directly on NAS, however there are two problems with that approach:
1. The current implementation of file-level backup in VAL might be slow when dealing with a large number of small files
2. Installation on NAS devices is totally unsupported now
Thanks!

Now that VBR 10 is released, is there an APP that will run purely on a Synology NAS device so that it can backup directly to VCC? Or do you still need VBR running on a seperate machine - The point of using a NAS device is to avoid having to use a full blown server in a small business, or for customers that runs Apple Macs and need a server.

@mazingtree
Nothing has changed since my last post
That is, for now there is no such App. However, the closest you can get is to install VAL ignoring veeamsnap dependency and use snapshot-less file-level mode to send backups to VCC.
Please note that such setup is still not supported officially.
Thanks!
