Veeam Plug-in for RMAN extremely slow (sometimes KB/sec)
We're experiencing extremely slow throughput with our Veeam Plug-In backups. Clients are 5.11 11.4.26.75.4 sun4v sparc sun4v writing to a DD9500, DDOS 6.X. VBR server v10. Plug-in VERSION: 10.0.0.4461.
I am seeing these errors in the veeam logs:
plugin_common| Manager has been started. PID: [17731]
[23.03.2022 13:00:41.540] < 1> plugin_common| Connecting to plugin manager

But the backup does eventually complete.

I also noticed the plug-in version is quite outdated... it's practically the initial release if I'm not mistaken, so this is missing a couple of years of bugfix and optimizations that followed.

Re: Veeam Plug-in for RMAN extremely slow (sometimes KB/sec)
The issue is related to using Data Domain with ddboost. Performance is terrible, perhaps related to Veeam and Data Domain both wanting to do compression and deduplication. I even tried turning off Veeam compression at the client level, didn't help. Moved the RMAN backups to our Cisco UCS 3260 with direct attached proxies and backups started running blazing fast. 14.6 TB backup completed in 7 hours. The same backup used to take 19-20 hours.

Re: Veeam Plug-in for RMAN extremely slow (sometimes KB/sec)
Anyway, please update to latest Veeam version, Plug-in version and update as well the metadata format. You will likely see significant performance improvments.
We work on any version/update on the performance topic.
10.0.0.4461 is from February 2020
Actual version can be downloaded on our regular download page (all patches included).

Can you elaborate on the metadata format? What needs to be done?
