Windows <-> Linux

Post by OpperVaagheid »

Hello,

I got an (i hope simple) question.
At our work we are running veeam on several linux servers that backup to a windows server.
I was wondering if we could install the linux agent on ofcourse the linux servers, to restore the backups.
What i don't want, is that the linux client is pushing backups to the windows server.
This is already being managed by the windows server itself.

So basicly i would just like to have the linux agent installed, to restore data.

Hello,

Could you please provide a specific example or scenario to illustrate your request?
This will help me better understand your requirements and provide a more precise solution.

Hello Rovshan,

Thank you for your quick reply.
Sorry for my tiny bit of information.
What we have:
Veeam & VSphere/VMWare
What veeam does:
Scans through the list of VMWare and see what servers there are active.
Depending on the tags in VMWare it depends on what kind of backups needs to be created.

What i would like:
On the linux servers we have, the linux client will be installed (first manually todo a test).
This so i can run the veeam linux client from the servers, because it is much faster.

I am sorry if i am not specific enough, just let me know what more information you would like to have.

Hello,

If you need to restore files and folders on Linux servers, you can easily achieve this using the Recovery Wizard or the Command Line Interface (CLI) provided by Veeam Agent for Linux.

Hello Rovshan

Thank you for this information.
I was already watching this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eaQNWhLr3c
But for now, i have no clue how to connect the linux agent to the windows server.
You mayve have an example for that?

Sorry for the amount of questions and not being clear.

Hello Rovshan,

Sorry for my late reply.
It seems to be a little bit more complicated as i expected.
I will ask internal first how the whole backup procedure is done.

But thank you for your quick replies.

If you want to manually install Linux backup Agent inside your virtual machines, you should follow these steps:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60

If you want to automatically install Linux backup Agent inside your virtual machines, you should check this article:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

However, it looks that you are not satisfied with the processing speed of your VMware backup.

I think I need to clarify something - for virtual machine backup Veeam uses the hypervisor capabilities (CBT, snapshots, and such).

For physical machines Veeam uses agents that are installed inside the OS.

Do you really want to install agents inside your Vmware guests?

Thanks!
