VBR with Veeam backup for AWS

Post by KAMI »

Hey everyone,

We do have full AWS infra and managing backups with Veeam ( VBR console + Veeam for AWS), we backup all accounts from a single Veeam for AWS console.

AWS accounts with EC2 <== backup by === Veeam For aws === Managed by ===> VBR console

Of course we backup to S3 and use the native S3 replication capabilities to get another copy of our backups but is this supported ? Didn't get the chance to test but I'm more worried about the fact IF the primary S3 for an unknown reason is broken during a replication, I guess the target S3 will not be in an healthy state and we won't be able to restore ec2 ?

Is there a way via Veeam to do that S3 replication between S3 ?

Anyone ever tried this kind of implementation ?

Hi Vincent,

You can use VBR to do backup copy jobs for this purpose, this way it stays within the Veeam platform.

Normally, if you use default replication - you should still be able to import the replicated S3 bucket as all metadata for the backups will be in there and you should be able to recover. Of course, this does imply that (as you mentioned), the replication process doesn't break things in any way (which I think is a very rare case).
