Disk Snapshot to another resource group

Post by StevePas »

Can we store Azure Disk snapshot NOT in the same ressource Group when the appliance take disk snapshot, by default when the appliance take a snapshot it stored in the same RG of the VM...
We want to add Azure resource Lock at Resource Group level for some of our Azure resource.. doing so will break the Azure Appliance removing older snapshot, since they will get the Lock from the RG...

So if those Snapshot could reside in another RG like from the portal we can decide where to store snapshot .. that could be helpful and those snaphost will not the herited with a "lock"..

Hi Steve,

Currently, it is not possible to specify the Resource Group, but thanks for your feedback! We will see what we can do in our next updates.

Thanks!

Veeam Backup for Azure implemented the ability to specify a snapshot resource group as part of v8 - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbazu ... ation.html

Hi, yes found this, why is this only implemented in SLA based policies and not schedule based??

It made more sense to implement this change in the upgraded backup engine logic with SLAs rather than trying to also make this change in old policies.

Hi Vitaliy,
If no new features are being added to schedule-based policies, should they be considered legacy? And is there a plan to eventually deprecate or remove them?

From my perspective, these are simply two different approaches, and the choice depends on the customer’s needs rather than one being inherently better than the other.

Good question, Bastiaan. Yes, SLA-based policy is the future at the current moment; we are also implementing it in VDC.

Just missing the Manual start of SLA based policies. Could trigger a Manual snapshot tho, but that doesnt trigger a Backup to Blob...
