Post by Andanet »

Hello all,
as repository for instances backup in GCP is possible to use a linux repository? Or can I use only a storage bucket?
Thanks

Hi Antonio

Only storage buckets are supported with Veeam Backup for Google Cloud.
Could you tell me please, why do you want to use a Linux repository? Do you want to use it for the primary backup job or as a backup copy on your VBR server?

Thanks

Hi Fabian,
thanks for your fast reply.
We need to use as primary backup job. But we are trying to have different storage repository for hardened backup on GCP.
This is our scenario:
30 VM Instances on different projects
15 SAP Hana database.
We want to backup VM instances on GCP and HANA DB on our on-prem Veeam Server with on-prem repository.
Our customer ask us to have hardened backup for instances too.
Can we use storage bucket on VEEAM project and use a copy job in a on-prem repo?
Thanks

You can add Veeam Backup for GCP to a VBR console and then use backup copy jobs to make an external copy as explained in the user guide.

Ok Nielsen.
For copy job I understood now.
Last little question.
For HANA DB using veeam agent... May I use a share repository with a linux VM on VEEAM project?

I would recommend splitting HANA DB backups from VM backups. You can create a different folder on the same repository to achieve this though. Keep in mind that for SAP HANA plugin, VBR is required.

Ok perfect. So I will backup VM with hana disk exclusion. Correct?

Mmmmmm with Veeam Agent can I write on Google bucket?

Yep sure.
Thanks

The Veeam Agent will support backup directly to object storage in the upcoming version which should include support for GCP.
