I've recently just implemented our O365 integration within our Veeam environment. After building some test jobs I've noticed, that Veeam doesn't have any options for. Compressing O365 data when backing up to a on prem repository. At first I thought maybe I was missing something and just couldn't find the option anywhere. Because there has to be a way especially since you have the ability to compress all hypervisor data.
After researching and submitting a support case in. Support was able to finally confirm my assumptions that on prem compression is indeed not supported at this time. Only cloud repos and blob storage currently support compression level backups for O365. I'm hoping that maybe Veeam's engineers will one day read this and maybe consider. Making this a realty for on prem repos because not everyone just uses cloud storage for all of their enterprise data.
Thanks,
Scott K

Re: Ability For O365 Backup Data Compression On Prem
Hi Scott,
With Jet DB-based repositories, you may see data compression of approximately 5–10%, while with object storage you can get a compression rate of up to 10–30% for SharePoint and up to 40–50% for Exchange.
Our recommended storage for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is object storage, especially if you are protecting multiple Microsoft 365 tenants or a single tenant with a large amount of source data. Any optimizations or new features will most likely be released only for object storage repositories.
If storage consumption is an issue for your organization, you may consider using one of our third party Backup as a Service provider or Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365, who don’t bill you for storage to protect your Microsoft 365 data. Alternatively, you can check out one of the supported object storage providers—many of them offer competitive TB pricing as a service to their customers.
Best,
Fabian

Regarding your feature request, I wouldn't expect any changes to the current capabilities for Jet DB repositories.I'm hoping that maybe Veeam's engineers will one day read this and maybe consider.
