Adding multiple AAD Application for single large site

Post by JaySt »

I'm running into job run time issues for a VBO org that is small in user count (<150) but has, among much smaller sites, a rather special sharepoint site which is quite huge in item count and size (multiple TBs big, milions of items). This site has been put in it's own job and runs for 10s of days. Never finishes when we were on earlier verions of VBO software. Now that we're finally on v6a and using modern auth only, i'm also looking at adding multiple applications for processing and lessen the throttling.

But! i'm not sure adding 10 or 20 applications would help with better and faster processing of a single site. Is the software using all the applications when processing a (very large) single site in a single job? Or do all the applications only speed up parallel processing of multiple sites and a site is always processed by selecting a single application?
i'd like to confirm before going forward.
thanks.

Hello,
please see this post about applications in v6a. One application should be enough (the feature will be deprecated) and if you run into issues, please open a support case and post the case number here for reference.

Best regards,

ok. i'll stop using/considering the multiple applications concept entirely from now on then.
Is it true however, that large tenants (with alot of users and/or alot of items data) would benefit (performance wise) more from running VBO inside Azure AND storing data directly into Azure blobs? I'm sensing that's the way to go for larger tenants nowadays, to prevent hairpinning the data for example.

yes, storing data in object storage (S3, Azure Blob...) is always a good idea instead of JetDB. But that's independent from the multiple application topic.

yes i understand. but still looking for ways to scale in this scenario. We cant scale performance with applications anymore. So, if a single appliction in this scenario would not be sufficient when using v6a in regards to runtime, moving to object storage and into an azure instance is perhaps on the table to make this work. But only IF the usage of JetDB and "VBO not being in hosted in Azure itself" are the issues here.

I'm not sure how to answer that question via a forum... I mean, theoretically there might also be a lack of CPU or memory. Object storage makes "everything" better, but it's probably irrelevant which object storage is used, as long as there is enough bandwidth.
