After Migrate B&R to PostgreSQL MS365 will also use PostgreSQL

hello,

i migrated the v12.2 to the postges today because of platzmagels. everything went well. now i want to update the ms365 to 8.0.3 on the server and that's where the problem comes in.

during the update it wants to create a new postges database instead of continuing to use the old ms-sql instance. but that doesn't work because all the data is stored in ms-sql. an existing postgres instance for ms365 is not found.

what now?

can i export the data from ms-sql as i did with b&r or tell the updater to please continue using ms-sql?

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 never used Microsoft SQL server to store configuration data.

that's ok, but the problem is to get the existing ms365 configuration in the new postgres db. i have 365 backups up to 2 years. when i accept the new postgres instance, than i have no more access to the stored data. additional all backups also saved to an immutable s3 storage.

Can you please confirm your upgrade scenario?
- V7 to V8?
- V8 to V8?

For V8 to V8, we are preparing a KB article on "Hot to migrate PostgreSQL database to a new machine". But it will take some time.

For V7 to V8, there is no "manual step" required for the migration of your VB365 V7 configuration to PostgreSQL. The upgrade process will take care of the migration. You only have to specify to which PostgreSQL database. Follow the KB article I shared with you if the VBR server with PostgreSQL + VB365 are installed on the same machine.

i defined the database form and now the next step is a form for NATS Server. but i have no nats server. version 7 did not need nats.

what shoud i do?

NATS is a new component required for VB365, see more here. You need to install it, and you can do it during the VB365 installation using the suggested defaults.

ok, but i do NOT an installation. i start an update and in this path no NATS installation will executed.

at the redist folder in the zip file only is only an exe file. no information about installation is included.

Updating from 7a to v8 should have presented options to automatically install PostgreSQL and NATS. It seems something went wrong during the update process. Our customer support team will continue the investigation with you.

I'm missing the setup logs in your case. Please provide these logs located at:
- C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup365\Logs\Setup
Not providing logs when creating a case may delay the initial processing of your case.

hello,

i have more information. at the beginning i tried it as it is written in the kb and found no possibility to install the nats. now i did it with a postgres user i created and now i get the install new instance for the nats. the update worked. but when i wanted to start the shell it didn't work, because after logging in immediately and in a loop the message “connection to server lost” appeared. then i changed the value for the timeout in config.xml from “-1” to 100 minutes and now everything is fine. now everything works as it should.
