Any way to exclude filetypes, such as .one?
I realise the Veeam interface doesn't yet allow filetype exclusions from O365 backups. Is there a hidden way this could be done, such as a powershell command?
We have 1 customer that would like all .one files excluded from their backups.
Thank you
Rob

Hi Rob,
No, that's not possible.
There's a 'hidden' way (via PowerShell) to exclude specific OneDrive folders, but not file types.
Thanks!

Ah that's a shame. Perhaps it could be added as a feature request in a future version?

Sure, your request is noted )
Do you by chance know the particular reason why your customer doesn't want to protect OneNote data?

It seems that the way users have been moving .one files around themselves, Veeam O365 backup will mistake .one files as unreachable websites (examples below with personal details changed to xxxxx)

Rob,
Did you contact Veeam support on this issue? The error above looks very similar to one of the known (and resolved) problems with backing up OneNote files in the Preservation Hold library, and the fix should be available via support.
Thanks!

Thank you, I do believe a general list of issues was communicated to support, but I'll ask to raise a specific ticket on this issue.

Chris,
The one I'm thinking of is included to this patch, but it's up to support to suggest the right solution.
Thanks!

Re: Any way to exclude filetypes, such as .one?
I would like to be able to exclude .PST files from the backup.
Some of my users have old PST files stored in OneDrive, which they open daily in Outlook just to consult old emails, so every day, the file changes, and I believe the O365 backup detects it as a new file, triggering a full backup of the PST again. Since these PSTs are large, this behavior is consuming a lot of space in my backup repository.
From what I've read, my only real option is to remove these PSTs from OneDrive, correct?

Re: Any way to exclude filetypes, such as .one?
Correct. We don't have exclusions based on filetype.
As a workaround, you can exclude specific folders on OneDrive through PowerShell (Add-VBOJob -ExcludedOneDriveFolders) .
Maybe it works for your organization to have a internal policy that all users have to store their PST files in a folder with the name "PST-Archive". Configure the job to exclude folder "PST-Archive" from processing.
Or migrate the content of all PST files to Exchange Online Archive mailboxes. Microsoft provides 50 or 100 GB Archive for each Exchange Online Mailbox.
Best,
Fabian
