Automated Backup Test Veeam 365 backup (SureBackup)

Post by marcelvv »

For my organisation, the accountant wants to know if the backup we are making is solid, en usable.
With Veeam B&R we have the option to select a SureBackup Job, so the backup is tested, and a report is mailed.

Is there a way in Veeam backup for Microsoft 365 to get an automated mail to present to the accountant that the restore is possible?

Hope you can help me out.

Hi Marcel,

No, it is not. Surebackup gives you indeed the possibility to start a virtual machine in a guarded environment and see if it runs (and even do much more functional testing on it). With VB365, you cannot and the only way to do some test restores is to restore (from time to time) to a different location (different email account / different OneDrive / different SharePoint site...). But this is manual work, although, if you want to, you could use PowerShell or the API's to automate this process yourself.

I was searching for the "Restore Checker" script from Steve Herzig, and this post was one of the top results on Google
So for reference, while not integrated and not an officially supported solution, Steve has created a script which searches and restores an email of your choice.
You can schedule this script, check the exit code and forward the results via email. Or monitor the exported email on file-level via an external monitoring solution.
