Auxiliary Backup Accounts - Synced Security Group supported ?

Post by falkob »

Hi all,

I was wondering whether I can set up auxiliary backup accounts within VBO which got synced from an on-premises Active Directory to Azure AD ?
I'm missing the information in the Helpcenter if this is supported or if this should work.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=40

The security group which was synced from on-premises AD shows up in the configuration.I can select it and try to add the password for the users which is failing. The users are NOT MFA enabled. The password has been double-checked already (tried to log on with it on an on-premises windows host successfully).
Am I missing something here, or is this just not supported ?

EDIT: I just tested if i could logon with the given user and password to portal.office.com, which does NOT work.

Hi Falko,

If a group is visible in the list of available options, it can be used. But all users that you select from within this group definitely must have access to O365.

Thanks!

Hi Polina,
thanks for the reply.
In the meantime I created another account in that on-premises security group and synced it to Azure AD. I can now log on with that account to O365, but it doesn't work in VBO.
I guess it is time for a ticket then or do you have another hint ?
I'm assuming, when you have an on-premises security group with accounts synced to Azure AD, then you would need to type the user account password in the wizard in VBO which has been provided on-premises right ?
The users in this group are not MFA enabled, which would lead to providing the app password ?
Make sure to provide an AD application password instead of a user account password when adding MFA-enabled accounts.

No other hints I can think of, so it'd be more efficient to let support engineers check the setup.

And you're absolutely right, an app password is not needed in this case; it's a basic authentication with a regular password. Does VBO fail to very the password you provide?

Yes VBO is failing to verify that password. Howevever, the password works on-premises and also to login into office.com.
I'll guess I need to open a ticket now.

Thank you very much so far !!
