Backing up entire 365 mailbox
I just setup Veeam for 365 and I setup it up just to backup 1 mailbox as a test. It did not backup the entire mailbox, looks like only the past year. Is there size or timeframe setting I am missing?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
Backups are made based upon your retention policy for your repository. If you did not change anything then items which have been modified between today and the default (I believe 1 or 3 years) will be backed up. If you want the full mailbox, you can either set the retention to forever or create a new repository with snapshot-based retention.

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
OK, I did change the retention to Keep Forever and it did backup a complete copy of my mailbox. Now going forward will just it backup the changes to the mailbox? My clients want a full backup of their complete mailbox always, I have to keep it a Keep Forever right. I don't want it to have to do another complete backup of each mailbox nightly.

It will only sync items older then the standard retention the first time and from then on it will always be incrementals.

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
Should I do another complete 'full' backup periodically in case 1 of the incremental backups gets corrupted or fails? Or are incrementals fine going forward for the next few years. I see using this backup system going forward, possibly for years.

There should not be any need for a full backup periodically but if it makes you feel safer, we won't object against it. You could also use Veeam Agent for Windows and back up the server running Veeam Backup for Office 365 and make an extra copy that way.

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
Yes I will be backing up my backup repository weekly. What if I am trying to restore an email from a year ago and the 'full' backup was created 3 years ago. Does it need successful incremental backups for that entire time?

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
VBO actually works a bit different, we will store a database per year and as long as you have those files together - restores can happen.

Re: Backing up entire 365 mailbox
So it will create and new database on its own each year and place in the same repository?

Correct, if you look into the repository, you will be able to see the folder structure per year.
