Backup Applications - unconfiguring post v8 upgrade

Post by sumeet »

Hi all,

v8 doco says that backup apps are no longer required - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... html?ver=8

We have setups where in we had configured backup apps to reduce throttling. Post v8.4 upgrade - does the backup app get used, if they are not removed. I understand the recommendation that they are not required and best to remove them.
But if not removed, do they get used?

The reason I ask is for some of the huge backup environments that we are upgrading now, I want to make one change at a time, instead of making multiple changes (upgrade to v8.4, removing all backup applications) in one go.
I would prefer to upgrade to v8.4 then few days later to v8.5, then few days later remove few backup apps, then few more and so on.

This will allow us to monitor the backups and their duration/performance as we make these changes.
But if those backup apps are not used at all post v8.4 upgrade - then no point in taking this slow.
If these backup apps are used, how do I check if they are used?

Hi Sumeet,

Apps that are configured and present in the settings, are still being used. And if you don't remove them manually, Microsoft can start blocking them forcefully.
To check the usage of auxiliary apps, open job logs and find the "Accounts throttling statistics:" line.

Thanks!
