Backup direct to object storage

Post by Alvaro »

Hello

My question about veeam for O365 is quite simple

Can I send my backups directly to cloud object storage or I need to send them to a buffer disk before?

Thank you

Hi,

This is described in the user guide. We use a local cache for speeding up searching during restores.

Yes, this is required. It will also help lowering costs for restores.

Alvaro,

We are considering to make this cache "0" which means certain metadata will not be on the local disk cache database. However, what would be the reason for not having this small cache?

In cloud...block storage is more expensive..specially if this storage is not internal in a baremetal. So..I just wanted to save money and send my backups directly to object storage.

The cache isn't huge, we are talking about MB's of storage being used. We don't store the full data first in there.

Hello,

Regarding the same case, i'm trying to use do some sizing with object storage only (and caché sizing):

I see in the documentation: "Because VBO compresses the source data before putting it in object storage in general the required space in object storage will be only ~50% of the source data."

If I use the calculator, i don't get those numbers. I also get confused about the calculator. There are two tabs (repository size and object storage size). Are those mutually exclusive?

Maybe i am not understanding the scope of the calculator and it is not valid for only object storage sizing.

Thanks
