Hello,
Our client has many inactive OneDrive data for users who have left the Org. They want to add this in backup, similar to what was done with inactive mailboxes -- veeam-backup-for-microsoft-365-f47/inac ... 92406.html
Below are the steps we did, but were not successful,
1. Currently the daily backup for SharePoint, lists many personal sharepoint sites as Failed to process **** Access to this Web site has been blocked. Please contact the administrator.
2. For one of the inactive users OneDrive user, we ran command -- Restore-SPODeletedSite -Identity <URL>
3. The above is based on doco https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/share ... d-onedrive
4. After the above command, the SharePoint backup no longer lists that user as error (what I listed in step #1 above). But nor does the personal sharepoint site gets listed as successful in sharepoint backup
5. The OneDrive backup too did not pickup the user OneDrive for which we can command in Step #2 above
6. By using this command, we can get access to users onedrive data to another user -- Set-SPOUser -Site <URL> -LoginName <UPNofDesiredAdmin> -IsSiteCollectionAdmin $True
Microsoft confirmed that the restore for the users OneDrive data is only accessible to the user who is given access too. The way I understand this is that the Restore-SPODeletedSite activates the users personal sharepoint site, but not to the level that it is active OneDrive account. The inactive users onedrive data is somewhere between an active personal sharepoint site and active onedrive account. Is this correct?
How do we backup this data?
Is the only way to get this complete is by following the below steps
1. Restore the users OneDrive data (Restore-SPODeletedSite -Identity <URL>)
2. Provide another user access to this data (Set-SPOUser -Site <URL> -LoginName <UPNofDesiredAdmin> -IsSiteCollectionAdmin $True)
3. Then using the user with access, copy the inactive onedrive data to another active OneDrive account
4. Run backup for the active OneDrive account
Any other suggestions or are we missing something?

Re: Backup Inactive OneDrive user data
Hi Sumeet,
I haven't done such an exercise, but to be applicable for backup, a OneDrive or a personal site must belong to a user with an active account and M365 license.

Re: Backup Inactive OneDrive user data
Hi Polina,
Thanks, I think then the only way is to copy the inactive Onedrive data to another active onedrive account.
Will try this out.

Yes, it seems to be the only way in this case...
