Hello Veeam,

Please address VBO support for MS Planner backup / recovery.

This is a critical item for businesses using Planner across their companies.

Thank you,

Hi Gene,

Please review previous posts in this thread.
There are some remaining issues that have to be addressed by Microsoft for VBO to be able to add support for the Planner.

Thanks.

No timelines at this point in time. The problem is there is no real API to protect plans and all the tasks inside it. As long as we don't have those, we can't protect them with MFA or MFA with legacy authentication methods

Because VBO365 is lacking some features we really need, we are currently evaluating a competitor product and they can secure planner and also private channels. So there seems to be some magic way that this is technically feasible.

@dasfliege

Can they do this entirely through the graph API's? If MSFT finally removes legacy authentication, there won't be a different way of logging on.

I actually don't know the insights of how they are doing it. But you have to register an App- and a Service-Account. The service-account is then added automatically as owner/administrator to all components that needs to be backed up. Seems that this way it's possible to save that stuff without the Graph API. I doubt that MS will remove legacy auth until they have a full-featured graph API. But as far as i know, veeam also don't support planner and private channels backup when using legacy auth?

Yes, we indeed don't support it because it would require a lot of work supporting something that should have been removed already. Interesting to learn that all they require is an app and a service account.

I have had a customer recently ask me about Microsoft Planner support, as well. It would be nice to see on the roadmap

Once the APIs for Planner are out, we'll put the support on the roadmap.

[MERGED]Microsoft Planner - Feature Request

Post by andrea@manzi.pro »

Veeam Support - Case # 05501414

I've been a Veeam Partner for some years now and I've never been disappointed.
Today I am a little bit.
Even if my customers are all in SMB market, the adoption of Microsoft Planner is becoming relevant and data in Planner are critical.
Just a few days ago I sold Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to one of my cutomers and I took for granted that I could backup and restore Planner's data too.
I found out I was wrong.

I've been searching the reason why in this forum and it's seems that is because of Microsoft lack of the proper API's.
So why other vendors (for example https://www.avepoint.com/products/cloud ... 365-backup) claim they can do that?

I hope Veeam will soon cath up and I don't need to refund my customer

Hi Andrea

Please read the answer from my colleagues.
Unfortunately without an official API, we can't protect the data today.
As Polina has said, if someday an API gets released, we can start putting it on the roadmap.

Thanks

There are API's for planner by now (I need to change the reason a bit as said here above). However, we still cannot give access to the app for those API's, which means they can be used with legacy authentication. And since that is going away, we will not support planner through legacy authentication anymore. Once MSFT confirms that app registrations can get the access to the data, we will start implementing it

That makes sense Mike. I would love to get support for backup of Planner, but not if the cost is enabling legacy authentication, as that would both go against security policies and wouldn't be a lasting solution anyways, since Microsoft will soon begin disabling legacy authentication altogether. We can only hope Microsoft will soon implement app registration access to the neccessary APIs. Thanks for the update.

Fair enough guys.
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Are you somehow in touch with MS in order to get some visibility on when this will be possible?
We have a real problem here without a backup for MS Planner's data.
It shouldn't be a big deal for MS to release such API's.
Are you people in Veeam making some sort of pressure?

Many thanks!

Hi Andrea,

We're working closely with Microsoft and they're well aware that these APIs are highly requested. If the state changes we'll be one of the first to know that )

Hi Marvin,

The required APIs for Planner are still not there, and the discussion on this need is ongoing.

Private channels backup has become technically possible with the release of the new Export APIs, and this support is on our roadmap for the next versions.

Thanks!

Yep,

Hi,
it would generally be nice if the Microsoft 365 Backup alerts if anything is found on Teams/Sharepoint/etc. that cant be backed up. The way it is at the moment you get a nice, green message saying everything is save, but it isnt at all. Like the planner - and god knows what else I may be missing and find out once I need it.

Is there any update on the question above yet? Can we expect to get backups for Planner in 2024?
