Backup O365 resource objects

Post by johannesk »

Hi,

Is it possible to add resource objects to a backup job? Like meeting rooms and other objects that are not users, groups, site etc.

I know VBO does pick this up if I configure a backup job to backup entire organization.

Hi Jóhannes,

Just a small clarification, do you need to back up meeting rooms, but without backing up users, groups, organisations, etc.?
Not sure if there is a standard way to do it.

Thanks!

If you combine AzureAD powershell with VBO powershell, this is most likely possible. VBO doesn't have filters in the GUI for specific resources as you requested.

We are backing up user, sharepoint, onedrive.

But the backup job selects the users by a group, that is the same group as gives those users the E3 license.

Resources don't use E3 licenses, thus we need some way to list up those objects.

Does VBO not offer a way to discover resource objects?

Hi Jóhannes,

There's no way to filter resource and equipment objects with VBO, they are presented as regular 'user' type. PowerShell scripting can be used as a workaround, as Niels suggested above.

Thanks!

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

I'll start figuring out how I can do this with AzureAD Powershell.
