I found a previous post from 2021 that backup of metadata columns in SharePoint lists was on the roadmap. Is there any progress on this ?
We have a customer who uses a product that stores metadata in a number of custom columns based of a custom content type in site collections. None of the competitor products appear to support backup of this data. Is there a timeframe of when to expect this?

Re: Backup of SharePoint List Columns
Hi David,
There was a change since that time: values from metadata columns are backed up and can be restored. But there's an important point to note - these values essentially are links to the existing Term Store, and VB365 only saves these links, not the values themselves. After restoring, original data will be preserved if original values are still the same in the Term Store.
And the Term Store itself is currently not supported for backup/restore.
Makes sense?

Your explanation does make sense. Is there a roadmap to when the term store for each site collection will be backed up so restoration will be possible?

No, at the moment I don’t have any ETAs for it.
