I will purchase Veeam for office 365, can we use azure storage account (azure file share) as repository to store the backup?

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 supports Azure Blob for backup repositories.

While Azure File Share (SMB3) may work with experimental support, I expect stability issues for our Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backup repositories. Also SMB repositories may be deprecated entirely in one of the next version.
Please don‘t use Azure File Share as a target repository.

Why is SMB not a good solution?
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 on SMB share or local disks will use jet databases to store the backup data. Running an active database from a SMB file share can lead to database corruption. We have many support cases where we have found this design.

That‘s why we strongly recommended against file shares as a repository type. Especially when the file share is backed by Azure File Share and your Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 has to mount it over an internet connection.

Azure Blob is the recommended option with full support on the Azure cloud for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
