We are looking to purchase this solution to backup our x100 O365 Mailboxes, OneDrive and SharePoint sites.
We have a reseller involved, but sometimes the devil is in the detail and wanting to confirm a few points.
Scenario - As a small company we'd prefer not to have any on-premise hardware and prefer SaaS.
Couple of questions :-
a) Reseller has confirmed that we must stand-up a Virtual Machine that can act as the backup engine. Assume this is correct and that Veeam aren't offering SaaS.
b) Can we directly target Azure Blob Cool Storage from our Azure VM backup running the Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365? Articles seem to suggest its only available in 'expansion tier' type scenario which isn't ideal for us (they may be historical).
c) Can Veeam set the Archive flag on the Azure Blob, thus reducing our storage costs? If so, then in the event of a recovery we'd need to unflag manually, or is this something Veeam can do?
c) In conversations with Microsoft Support, the Azure Blob containers have limited ransomware protection. I.e. you can set lock resources https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ ... -resources, however Azure's own Backup Vault solution seems to be much more robust - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ ... ty-feature. Has anyone got any insights into securing the backup vault.
Appreciate any real world insights as prefer eyes wide open prior to the investment.
Thanks
Glenn

Re: Backup to Azure Storage Container
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
a) correct. we provide software. No infrastructure. But there are Veeam Cloud Service providers who offer VBO as service (SaaS)
b) no
c) no
d) nothing from my side
Backup to object storage is something we are looking at but it is too early to say when this will be available.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Backup to Azure Storage Container
Hi Glenn,
expanding a bit on the Hannes's response:
a) You can either leverage VBO365 as a service through our service provider partners, or build your own infrastructure by deploying VBO components on a virtual or physical machine(s).
b, c, d) Direct backup to object storage is not yet available, however, it's on our roadmap for future releases.
-Cheers
