Can't add repository to QNAP shared folder
Hi Everyone,
This is the first time that I have downloaded Veeam Backup Office 365 community edition.
I want to familiarize myself with this product.
I have installed the software, created an organization succesfully.
As a backup device I have a 2 bay QNAP TS-231P2 Nas Unit withe latest firmware.
I created a shared foldercalled office35 and I assigned full read/write permissions to admin user.
From windows 10 I can right click then run and type \\nas\office365 and I can access the share. From file explorer I can copy files to it.
The NAS unit is not domain joined, just local users and groups.
Then under Backup Infrastracture, I clicked on "Backup Repositories" to add a new repository.
When I get to insert the path \\nas\office365 for the repository, says validating .... and comes up with:
Specified folder doesn't existon the backup proxy. Do you want to create it?
I click YES and I receive the following message:
Could not find a part of the path '\\nas\office35'. Validation Failed
I can't add the repository.
Shared folder exists and I can access it (full read/write) from windows.
I checked this community forum, but could not figure it out.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Re: Can't add repository to QNAP shared folder
Hi Premier,
To be able to use an SMB3 share, you need to give full rights to the computer account (your VBO services should run as localsystem)
But I am not sure if that QNAP will work to be honest...

Re: Can't add repository to QNAP shared folder
It will work, if your QNAP is in the same active directory domain as your VBO365 Backup Server. It‘s not working for non domain joined SMB Share.

I strongly recommend to create an iscsi LUN on your QNAP and connect it directly to the vbo365 server.
SMB 3.0 has only experimental support.

Re: Can't add repository to QNAP shared folder
In response to Mildur (thanks by the way) I don't have an a windows 2008 or above server or exchange onpremise.
I am just talking about Office 365 (exchange online, onedrive and sharepoint) totally in the cloud. The only active directory services that I am aware of are Microsoft Azure AD in the cloud.
I am running Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 5.0.1.225 on my personal computer with Windows 10 21H1.
I can backup using the Default Backup Repository whose path is set to C:\VeeamRepository. I can add Backup repositories using local drives, but I want to use the NAS since I have a lot of storage space.
There is got to be a way to use the QNAP NAS in non-domain joined mode? The share that I have created is SMB3, The NAS suports SMB3.

I am using an SMB3 share on the QNAP and I have both Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Service, Veeam Backup Proxy for Microsoft Office 365 Service services running under Local System Account on my Windows 10 V2H1 computer.
Best regards

No, that‘s not possible. VBO365 is not build to use SMB 3.0 without a domain Join. There is got to be a way to use the QNAP NAS in non-domain joined mode? The share that I have created is SMB3, The NAS suports SMB3.
Read the KB article. It‘s experimental and comes with this specific requirement. Only domain joined will work.
You must use iscsi LUN in your case.
Qnap can do iscsi LUN. Your windows 10 PC can connect to a iscsi LUN.
