Community Edition & Synology NAS

Hey guys,

I have a small company of six users. We have a Hyper-V server running 3 VMs on Server 2016 with Veeam B&R Community Edition installed on it.

I've got two backup destinations in Veeam B&R:

1. Attached USB 3.0 Dell RD1000 with removable tapes
2. Synology DS718+ NAS configured via CIFS

I've also got two backup jobs:

1. VMs to Tape
2. VMs to NAS

On the same server I also have Veeam B&R for Office 365 Community Edition. I've got the RD1000 successfully added as a backup destination but I'd also like to add the Synology NAS. I've got all workstations backing up to the same NAS using Veeam Agent for Windows Free as well as a switch and firewall with automated configuration backups going to the same NAS. Because of this I'm trying to avoid iSCSI.

When configuring destinations in VBO365 I don't see my CIFS destination when navigating my Backup Proxy (the Veeam B&R server.)

How would I go about doing this?

CIFS is not supported as a backup target. We can leverage iSCSI or SMB3.

Is there no option to create just an iSCSI share for VBO365?

The share I've created for Office 365 is verified SMB3. How would I go about configuring it with SMB3 as opposed to iSCSI?

Hi Brent,

I am not very aware how SMB 3 on a Synology NAS works but here are the instructions:

When adding the repository to a proxy server: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=30 add the SMB share as \\name\sharedfolder
Please note that there are some requirements to make it work:
- To set up a network drive\UNC path to the repository on a network share, ensure that the Local System account has the Read and Write privileges to access that share.
- Storage volumes that host the archive repository must be formatted with NTFS or ReFS.
- To use an SMB 3.0 share, make sure you are using Microsoft Windows 8 or Microsoft Windows 2012 or higher.
