Community experiences with group-based filtering?

Post by kerard »

Hi everyone! I'm interested in learning about the community's experiences with group filters in VBO. Have any of you used groups to filter your organization's objects into specific backup jobs for any specific reasons beyond exclusion/inclusion? More specifically, has anyone used groups to divide their backup workload across multiple proxies, different repositories, or to process mailboxes at different intervals? Or, was there another reason?

If you did any of the above, would you mind sharing your experience? Thanks!

We have multiple customers using groups (O365 or AD OU) as a source because of the ease of management this way. It allows them to be in sync in both O365 and VBO. In larger organizations this is also very common vs managing backup jobs on a per user base.

Additionally, it can help in creatief seperate jobs for Exchange, OneDrive and SharePoint based on the requirements. If not all OneDrive accounts need a backup for example, they can be used as an exclusion or just ignored with the creation of multiple jobs.

Where can we get more information on how to configure this type of setup?

Omar,

Most of the work that Niels described above is done through either PowerShell or REST API. All the information can be found at helpcenter.veeam.com but also some nice examples on GitHub (https://github.com/VeeamHub/powershell)
