Hi
First post on this forum.
Im evaluating VBO and I have some questions, I know there are many experts on this topic, so hopefully someone can provide me some direction.
Regarding VBO in general
- How much local storage is needed if the backend is S3? for example I have 25 mailboxes, 100GB each,, does that mean that I need 2500GB local storage on my cloud server? how does that work? how do I calculate hoe much local storage I need when the back end is bob?
- Veeam Explorer for Exchange keeps saying that my object storage will return the searches and that my provider will charge me,,, how does that work? how you anticipate the costs? is there any log that could be checked in my test environment so I extrapolate the data usage? How do I know what part came from local cache (if any) and what part came from the S3?
- How do I get Point in Time with Veeam Explorer for Exchange? I see it on the main console only, on Explorer I can see only the last backup.
Regarding Explorer for Exchange:
- How can I browse just the deleted items without having to enter each folder in the mailbox ? (Id like to restore only items that were deleted since the last backup, but I might not know where those items where in the folder tree)
Regarding VBO as Service Provider:
- I read that a license for Cloud Connect is needed, but that, is basically and add-on "after" you buy Veeam Backup & Replication (Also, the deployment guide says that to be a service provider you need to have those products installed on the same server) do I need the whole Veeam BR even if I dont offer any of those services? how the license work regarding that?
- Is there a webpage for self serve? how do tenants access their data and do Restores ? do they need a full Windows App (Veeam Explorer) on their PC?
Thanks a lot !!

Re: Evaluating VBO365, have some questions.
Hey,
- How much local storage is needed if the backend is S3? for example I have 25 mailboxes, 100GB each,, does that mean that I need 2500GB local storage on my cloud server? how does that work? how do I calculate hoe much local storage I need when the back end is bob?
-> As always this depends, but it is will be actually more. Because you will need to take into account your incremental backups. You can use this: https://calculator.veeam.com/vbo to do a calculation, but as always, it remains a calculation
-> If you do a search, then it will need to read certain data from the object storage, which can be egress costs. It depends on what you are using. I assume you will be using AWS?
-> The part that comes from the local cache is what you see when you open the Veeam explorer. Search will take you deeper into the details and therefore we need to read the objects
- How do I get Point in Time with Veeam Explorer for Exchange? I see it on the main console only, on Explorer I can see only the last backup.
-> Not sure what you are doing exactly, but if you are on the main console, right-click on a backup job and choose the correct restore point. See here for details: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=50
- How can I browse just the deleted items without having to enter each folder in the mailbox ? (Id like to restore only items that were deleted since the last backup, but I might not know where those items where in the folder tree)
You could do a data compare: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=50
For VBO as a service provider, I will get back to you in a next post as this is a different scenario

Re: Evaluating VBO365, have some questions.
For your service provider scenario: Are you looking to offer this to your customers? In a very short time there will be 2 scenario's available. As of VBO v6, you will have the possibility to offer a self-service portal and then you might not need the cloud connect scenario.
-> You will need VBR installed on the same server in this scenario, but cloud connect is a service, and when it comes to licensing it requires rental licenses for VBO. Cloud connect on its own isn't licensed separately
- Is there a webpage for self serve? how do tenants access their data and do Restores ? do they need a full Windows App (Veeam Explorer) on their PC?
Yes, see version 6. In that case the customer will not need the Veeam Explorer installed on their PC.
