It would be nice if email backup could exclude emails based on the sender address like scanners, notifications from different systems (project management, monitoring, etc.), news and other non-critical emails.
Use case:
Office scanner sends scans as pdf to user email from specific email address.
Users save the scanned pdf to OneDrive, SharePoint or somewhere else.
If the users don't delete the email the pdf will be backed up in email and in OneDrive/SharePoint. So the email backup is unnecessary.

Re: [Feature Request] exclude emails from specific sender from backup
Hi @SamiE
I'm not sure if this is a task for us. We do backup and restore, and what you are looking at is a system that has workflows to remove duplicate data through different systems. It will also be very difficult to perform such an action, and backups will take very long as we will need to scan the system all the time for emails with specific senders. That means a lot of queries to MSFT servers, and a lot of delay.

Re: [Feature Request] exclude emails from specific sender from backup
Hi,
I don't see why there would be more queries to MSFT servers. Filtering would be done on backup server when the mailbox items are downloaded and items matching the sender would be dropped. Of course this would increase load on backup server when the emails are backed up.
Another use case could be to prevent for example NY times email newsletters to be backed up.
