Failed to find group owner account

Hi guys, I'm getting the error "Failed to find group owner account" on some shared mailbox: "Processing mailbox xxx completed with warning: Failed to find group owner account" with VBO v.2.0

If I look at the mailbox properties from Office 365 Portal I can see the owner

I'm going to open a support ticket

Hi Marco,

It's a known issue, and there's a hotfix available, which will be provided to you, once you open a support call (and please share your case ID here, so that we could track it).
There's also a workaround suggested in this thread.

Hi Polina. I am seeing this same issue on VBO 3.0 GA. Is the hotfix not included there?

Hi Preben,

The fix is there since v2... It's worth showing the logs to our R&D; can you open a case with support, please, and tell me its ID?

Yes. The tenant hadn't configured the group owner properly, so behaviour is as expected.

I was curious as to why this setting was even required, and this is the response we received from support - in case anybody else is wondering:
Support wrote:Owner account assigned to private exchange groups allows to have an access to the users added to this group. Veeam gets an access to these users by impersonating the owner of this group. This is the only way Veeam is able to backup such private groups.

Does anyone know if this is still the case with v4?
We have a lot of groups because we use Teams and get warnings from the backup almost daily (apparently many group owners leave the company and their account gets deleted, I guess)

The requirement is still present in v4; and if accounts are deleted such warnings should be expected...

veeam backup for ms office 365 V4

if group owner is removed for office 365group, and the group has no owner for short while, after add new owner for the group, Veeam backup cannot detect the new owner. therefore the backup job jus hangs for ever.
