Summary
Native configuration backup and restore should be in parity with Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR)
Background
- Migrations due to end-of-life operating systems
- Security and upgrade requirements
- No reliable way to preserve and restore full configuration
Current Limitations
- No centralized configuration export (jobs, repositories, proxies, organizations, settings)
- Manual rebuild required (time-consuming, error-prone)
- No support for clean migration scenarios
Workarounds (insufficient)
- VM snapshots: limited to VM-based upgrade scenarios
- VM snapshots: not applicable to physical servers
- Agent-based backups and snapshots: not suitable for migration scenarios
- Agent-based backups and snapshots: lack consistency and portability
Expected Functionality
- Full configuration backup (all components)
- Restore to new or existing server
- Support for migration (OS and hardware)
- Scheduled backups and secure storage
- Simple and reliable restore process
Business Impact
- Reduced migration effort and risk
- Improved operational resilience
- Alignment with VBR standards
Conclusion
- Required for enterprise-grade operations
