File Scanning before Restore

Hi there,

a customer asked if VBO has a file scanning feature integrated before a restore can be done.
As far as i know VBO only uses the native virus scanner of sharepoint online before backup, so it would fail with the message "Item may have a virus reported by the virus scanner plug-in".
So even mails with malicious attachments would be backed up, if the native M365 filescanner would miss this file?
Or is there an virus scanning /file scanning option that I'm not aware of?

Hi Kai,

You are correct, there is currently no such extra feature that can do this. I would suggest exporting files as a zip which any virus scanner can pick up and scan inside normally.
