Help understanding Teams backup

Post by mlange » 1 person likes this post

We've installed VBO v5 and I've got Teams backing up fine. My questions revolve around storage and logistics I guess. Pre v5 teams data was backed up as part of the Exchange and Sharepoint jobs with chats in Exchange and data/files in Sharepoint. Now the Teams job will do all of that which is great, but I guess I'm missing how to dynamically exclude the teams specific data from the other jobs so that we aren't duplicating backed up data and I don't have to constantly maintenance the jobs as new Teams are created. I know that if I point the Teams job to another repository that holds other Teams data it won't duplicate, but we don't want to put all our eggs in one basket. I have looked at the best practices document that's out there, but the one I've found seems to still be for v4.

@mlange

If a team is being protected, and it is within the same repository as other data, then it won't be duplicated. If it is however stored over multiple repositories, then we need it twice.

Thanks Mike! Is there any way to dynamically exclude the Teams data from jobs? For example, exclude the Teams chat history from the Exchange job and still keep the mailbox, or is it an all or nothing situation?

Chat history on a user is separated from the teams backup so won't be in there. Only channel/ tab chats will be in there as they are part of the mailbox of that O365 group. So if that group is not protected in another job, you will not have doubles
