Queries related to VBO
Hi All,
VBO server Version 5.0.2.22
I have few queries related to VBO: -
1. If a user deleted from O365 but not from VBO server, will that user data will be available till retention or it will also get deleted from VBO server as no new backup will run for that user?
2. How the licensing works for SharePoint sites and Team channel?
3. After one successful backup of a Group mail users, a user is remove from that group but not from O365. Will that user's backup also get removed from VBO or it will be available?
Thanks in Advance

Re: Queries related to VBO
Hi Sanjay,
First: welcome to the forums
For your questions:
1. Yes, the user will remain in the backups until the retention is gone
2. From the helpcenter: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=50
SharePoint: Each user in your Office 365 subscription (or on-premises deployment) that has been granted access to team, communication, collaboration and other non-personal SharePoint sites that you plan to back up must be licensed.
Teams: Each user in your Office 365 subscription that has been granted access to Microsoft Teams objects that you plan to back up must be licensed.
3. The data will remain, but the user itself will be removed from the backup. In other words, you will be able to restore data from that successful backup, but the next backup it won't be protected anymore so newer data will not be restorable

Re: Queries related to VBO
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the prompt response
1. Will that deleted user in o365 consume a VBO license as it's backup is still available in VBO repository?
2. How the license work for SharePoint organization sites (Non-personal sites) and how much license will be required. Suppose If in an organization site there are 5 users who do have access to that site but 2 users mail box backups are already running & also are licensed but for 3 users no mail backup job is running. So how the license will work in this scenario and how much license will be required?
3. But in an environment where we have deployed VBO, at the moment we remove a user from a users group in O365 (not deleted) after one successful backup, when new backup job of that group gets completed successfully. it is not showing that removed user data. Is there any command or option which will help us to see the data of that removed user?
Thanks in Advance

Re: Queries related to VBO
Hi Sanjay,
1. A user that is not backed up anymore will continue to consume a VBO license for the next 31 days. After that the license will be revoked automatically.
2. VBO doesn't track such licenses. If you don't back up any user data and only protect general sites, license count will not increase, however, you still need to have enough users licensed to stay compliant with Veeam EULA. In your scenario, you need 5 users to be licensed, but in the Console, you'll see only 2 licenses consumed.
3. You can, for example, use the Get-VBOEntityData to get information on the specific user (site, group, etc) in the backup.
Thanks!

Re: Queries related to VBO
Hi Polina,
Thanks for the response!!!
1. After 31 days, will my backup data will also get deleted or not. If not, then whenever i am removing a user from VBO and running a new backup job, after that it is not showing the pervious backup data of that removed user.
2. If i don't licensed my 3 users, will my backup job get failed and i will get error or it will not throw any error and backup job will get completed successfully.
3. Can i restore that data because it is not showing me any data in the Veeam Explorer for Exchange.
Thanks in advance

Re: Queries related to VBO
1. Backups will remain until they go out of retention. If you delete the entire backup job, you can view backed-up items from this job by opening Explorer from the Organization's node.
2. Backups won't be affected, but you won't be compliant with the licensing terms
3. Right-click on the Organization node to see all the backed-up data related to it. You'll see also objects that are not in backup jobs anymore.
