How to configure monthly backups

Post by DCW »

Hi Guys,

I'm setting up Veeam for o365 on an Azure VM, I've configured daily backups to the local machine with 30 restore points.

I've also setup some cold storage in Azure and want to take monthly backups for archiving purposes to be held for 7 years to cover me for the scenario when a user says "I deleted XYZ emails months ago can you please restore", so I can see the state of the users mailbox at the time when they believe the emails existed.

How can I achieve this requirement?

Case ID 04437624

Thanks!

I've attempted to set up a second backup job to point to my blob storage however in the scheduling options there doesn't appear to be a way to run a job monthly, it's either pick a day or select periodically which only goes up to 8 hours.

VBO doesn’t offer a second copy option.

You can either increase the retention on the repository to 7 years. It will allow you to go back 7 years.

Another option is to use Veeam Backup for Azure and use it for long term backups of the whole vm to blob storage. This way you have an additional copy of the full vm and restore options.

7 years of retention is great, but if somebody deleted an email 3 months ago and I only have 30 days of restore points then they're not getting that back right?

Id have to look into taking snapshots of the entire vm are you suggest.

Actually I've just noticed the Veeam restore explorer provides a 'Permanently Delete Items' folder on users mailboxes which perhaps satisfies my requirements.

Correct, you would still be able to restore those mails and go back to every point in time.
