Immutability AWS repository
Hello,
This only the question, so I didn't create service ticket...
I know that Immutability is not supported for VBO, but...
Let's admit that our object repository supports Immutability.
Is it possible to protect our data against deleting or changing by this scenario?
We have on-premise object storage, where we store backed up data and where we don't have enabled immutability. At the same time we have backup copy job that copy data to AWS bucket where we want to enable immutability.
Is it possible to perform this?
If we have retention period for 10 years, what happened after 5, 10, 15 years?
Thank you

Re: Immutability AWS repository
Hello Jan,
That will not be supported, I mean it will not do anything in terms of Immutability on the S3 bucket. As we will make the Backup Copy there, meaning PUT objects there, but we will not enable the immutability flag on those objects, so even when immutability is enabled on the bucket, there is still an extra API flag to write the items and make them immutable.
There is no workaround for this at the moment, but perhaps it might change in the near future.
Best regards

@Pagrossman
We have upcoming features in our next version that will assist you with that. Stay tuned. But for now, don't have it active on the object storage level as it can break things

Thank you, I didn't know that the immutability flag creates Veeam.jorgedlcruz wrote: ↑Sep 20, 2022 8:50 am Hello Jan,

Thank you for this information.
We are recreating our repositories to better setting At the same time we are not able to enable immutability on the bucked additionally.
What does it mean in the next version? In the one week? one month? half year?
Best regards,

Re: Immutability AWS repository
Hello, you enable immutability on the bucket, but to make use of that immutability, and lock every object with the necessary retention, Veeam needs to do that for you, same as in VBR, etc. There is some info about it here https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/storage/pr ... ject-lock/
As Mike said, better not to enable it for now. And for the release cycle. I can not comment much on dates, if Mike is saying soon, I would expect it on the mark T minus six months approx more or less, maybe he can narrow it more.
