Installation of VBO console on server with proxy role
Dear forum,
I just updated our VBO installation to the latest release.
This included VBO server and one other servers proxy role. The VBO console was installed on both systems.
However, after updating server and proxy, using the console on the proxy server did not work any more due to version conflicts.
Updating the console using the installer did not work ("Another instance if Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Proxy is already installed").
I opened a support case (#04940128) to have that checked and it seems as if it is not intended to install the console on a server which already has a proxy role running.
Did anyone manage to get this done Or is it maybe possible to have a standalone console installer as with VBR?
Use case: We operate VBO in a completely separate environment with very limited network accessibility, so we can only RDP to VBO servers.
There is no dedicated system running the console only.
Thanks a lot for your help

Timo,
This is a scenario that I hear for the first time and I doubt this has been tested. Let me verify this.

Timo,
Unfortunately this is not a supported configuration. We blocked this. Is there a specific reason you need the VBO console on the proxy server?

Re: Installation of VBO console on server with proxy role
Hey Mike,
thanks for your verification
My reason would be that there are no additional machines in that environment where I could install the console on. Just two servers (VBO server with proxy and second proxy)
Still, I would like to have the possibility to split administration and running scheduled PowerShell tasks from working on new scripts or giving other administrators simultaneous access to the console without having the need to set up terminal server roles.
I guess I'm a bit spoiled by VBR

OK. I understand your use-case. The thing is that all these scripts will run against the VBO server so it is kind of "useless" to run them on the proxy. But I understand that you have no additional servers at hand.
Thanks for the clarification.
Would it be possible for those admins to connect to the servers through their laptop/ desktop?

Well, currently no.
These servers are cloud-hosted and unless a dedicated client device is deployed, no other access than RDP is possible.
I mean - it's not a really big issue and I am sure that the decision to not support that is based on something.
I was just surprised to learn that as it used to work just fine and it is a supported scenario for VBR.
