Installing Windows Server 2019 over existing Win2016 installation...

Post by bielekovve »

My VBO365 server was installed in a Windows Server 2016 (64Bit) environment.

Is it possible to upgrade the server to Windows Server 2019 edition without "killing" my VBO365 v4 installation? Do I have to reinstall/reconnect s.th. concerning VBO after the W2019-upgrade is done?

Thanks in advance,

Andreas

I don't think you have an issue with that. We support both solutions but we have never done the testing. The biggest issue you might get into is problems with the storage you are using. What is your exact setup?

Hello again, sorry for the delay...

My setup is Windows Server 2016, 32GB RAM, 8 processors, 500GB local drive (metadata repo), the installation is connected to an onprem s3-object storage, NetApp StorageGRID, v11.3 - VBO365 v4.0.1.545...

The main question is: is it mandatory to update to Win2019, the sooner the better or is there no need to update?
And... if I run the Win-Updater... what happens to my VBO365 installation and its metadata which point to the backup in our object storage? Will VBO "survive" a Windows Update?

Thanks in advance, kind regards,

Andreas

Hey Andreas,

It is not mandatory at this moment, we still support windows server 2016. For the win-updater, it will leave VBO alone and won't make any changes to it
