Is there a way to change the retention period without need a new full backup?

Post by flavio.santos »

Guys, we have a customer that we give a 60 days trial, and we create a 3 years retention repository for him. It took almost 30 days to finish the first full backup.

After the trial, he signs a contract for Forever retention, is there a way to change this repository from 3 years to Keep forever, without the need for a new full backup?

It is 1000 licenses, 21 Tb of data (16 Tb is Exchange).

Thanks!

Hi Flavio,

It depends on the retention type you use.
If it's item-level, on the next run after the change VBO will transfer all data that previously was out of the scope plus the newly created items.
With the snapshot-based, you already have all the historical data in the repository and only new items will be added on the next job run.

Thanks!

Thanks @Polina,

It is Item-level. I will give it a try.
